Fountains of the Great Deep

“And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth. In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” (Genesis 7:10-11)

This scripture is a powerful depiction of what happened when God flooded the earth during the time of Noah. Notice the phrase “the fountains of the great deep.” Most scholars today believe that it not only rained but that great waters stored beneath the earth also broke through to the surface. Can you imagine torrents of rain coming from above and deluges of water coming from under your feet at the same time? Well, it seems that is exactly what happened!

There are many lessons for Christians to learn through this story. Notice also that the scripture says the fountains had to be “broken up.” You see, we all have fountains of the great deep that are inside of us as well. God put them there for a purpose. The problem is, how do we get these “fountains” of blessings to come out? Most of us have hang-ups that cause our fountains to be dammed up. Listen, the fountains are the “Living Waters” that God put inside of you when you gave your heart to Him. And, the fountains of Living Water, can only be released when you praise and worship Him! Something supernatural takes place when a believer begins to worship the King of kings. The worship is a sweet-smelling savor in the nostrils of God and it causes Him to come to you. Hey men! It’s kind of like when you’re being nice to your wife. When you minister to her, what happens? She comes to you, right? I mean, she likes you back…she’s receptive to your suggestions (get it? Blink blink!). Oh how much there is to learn from this story of the great deep!

Now remember, there is a devil too and he doesn’t like God and he doesn’t like you. And he most certainly doesn’t want you worshiping God, because he knows that when you worship, he’s got to go. That’s right – Your worship chases the devil away. Think about it! Isn’t that what you want…for the devil to be gone? Well, duh! Aren’t you glad God has made all of this so simple?

So, the next time you need Jesus (the Bridegroom) to come to you, all you have to do is release those fountains of Living Water from the Great Deep which are down inside of you already. When you do that – WATCH OUT DEVIL!
